Survodutide (BI 456906) is a once-weekly injectable drug that activates both the glucagon and GLP-1 receptors to treat obesity and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH):
How it works
Survodutide activates both the glucagon and GLP-1 receptors, which are important for controlling metabolic functions. This can lead to weight loss by increasing energy expenditure and reducing food intake.
Trials:
In a phase 2 trial, survodutide led to significant weight loss in people with obesity or overweight, compared to a placebo. In another phase 2 trial, survodutide led to a statistically significant improvement in MASH in 83% of adults treated, compared to 18.2% of those treated with a placebo.
Side effects
The most common side effects of survodutide are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. These side effects are usually mild to moderate and occur mainly when the dose is increased.
