Azithromycin is a
broad-spectrum macrolide antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections like
pneumonia, strep throat, sinusitis, and certain sexually transmitted infections.
It works by stopping bacteria from producing essential proteins. Because it is
an antibiotic, it will not treat viral infections like the
common cold or flu.
