Finpecia is a medication used for the treatment of male pattern baldness also known as androgenetic alopecia. Finpecia contains active ingredient Finasteride. Finpecia is not intended for use in women and for treatment of baldness caused by insufficiency of vitamins, alopecia areata and other forms of alopecia.
Finasteride works by inhibiting 5-alpha-reductase. This enzyme is responsible for converting of testosterone into its more active form 5-alpha-dihydrotestosterone. The key mechanism of male pattern baldness development is 5-alpha-dihydrotestosterone that suppresses the activity of hair follicles. By lowering the amount of 5-DHT in the blood finasteride helps to stop hair loss and promote hair regrowth. Finasteride does not act on hair follicles in women and children. Finpecia helps prevent hair loss on the top and front of the head. It does not help for receding hairline near the temples. Finasteride is not approved for use in women and children.
Finpecia comes in the form of tablets. The recommended dose for the most men with androgenetic alopecia is one tablet. Tablets must be taken orally washing down with sufficient amount of water. It may take several months to see the full benefits of Finpecia.
